Child abuse is one of the public health problems. Mistreatment of children has a wide range of consequences for the child's daily functioning and development, which also manifests itself in adult life and has social consequences for the community such as deteriorating family functioning, inactivity in the labor market, lack of social skills. The prenatal period is the best time to start creating a supportive environment for the baby and the family. To successfully pass this crucial period in life, young mothers need careful help and advice.
The aim of the project
is to improve prevention and reduce health inequalities in Klaipėda District Municipality.
During the project it is planned:

    To train a home visit specialist to provide family visitation services and create a job for a home visit specialist for this purpose.
    To acquire the necessary measures and equipment for the provision of home visitation services.
    To provide home visitation to at least 25 families during pregnancy, after childbirth and until the child reaches the age of 2 years.
Expected project results:

The project is expected to improve information provision for pregnant mothers during their pregnancy, after childbirth and until the child reaches the age of 2 years, by providing high quality services to help the mothers make justified decisions about their childcare to ensure the well-being of vulnerable mothers, infants and children under age of 2 years. It is also expected that after implementing the model for home visits and provision of early intervention services in Klaipėda District Municipality, the short-term and long-term indicators highlighting the social well-being and health of the mother and children will be improved (for instance, increase in number of breastfed new-borns, increase in number of vaccinated children, reduction in number of families subject to social risks due to lack of skills for taking care of their children).
Project target groups:
first-time pregnant young (under 21) and older (over 40) women, pregnant women subject to social risk environments and/or subject to risk factors and their children under 2 years old, other family members, community.
Project partner:
Klaipėda District Municipality Gargždai Primary Health Centre
