The Baltic Research Program call for proposals in Latvia is published

The State Education Development Agency (VIAA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia (IZM) has published the call for proposals for Latvian researchers to implement mutual research projects with partners from Lithuania, Estonia, Norway and (or) Iceland and (or) Liechtenstein.

In this call, the applications can be submitted by the Latvian Project Promoters. Cooperation among project partners from all Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) with at least one partner from Norway and/or Iceland and/or Liechtenstein (donor project partners) is mandatory. Research institutions established in Lithuania can be project partners.

Research projects must address at least one of the topics under five thematic priorities:
  • Public health; e- health;
  • Migration; social inclusion;
  • Cyber security; public security;
  • Regional economic development; employment; labour market regulations and social policy;
  • Innovative Solutions for efficient and sustainable use of resources.

Proposals are submitted by the Latvian institutions (Project Promoters) electronically to the State Education Development Agency via submission system rsgrants.viaa.gov.lv. The deadline for submission of proposals is 19 October, 2020 at 23.59.

During the programme period, three open calls in the Baltic States are announced, giving researchers from each of the Baltic States the opportunity to lead projects. The first call was opened in Estonia in 2018, the second – in Lithuania in the beginning of 2020. The first call launched by the Estonian Research Council and the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research received 130 applications and 7 grants were awarded. 79 applications from 19 Lithuanian research and study institutions were submitted in total for the Baltic Research Program call announced by the Research Council of Lithuanian. The Program Committee will approve the financing of projects by the end of this year.
